Half day New Delhi Tour
Visit: The architectural marvels of Mughal Delhi – Humayun’s Tomb & Qutub Minar
Visit the magnificent Humayun's Tomb in Delhi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site built in 1570 by
Empress Bega Begum, the widow of the second Mughal Emperor, Humayun. This outstanding
monument, designed in the Indo-Persian architectural style, is considered a precursor to the
Taj Mahal and marks the beginning of grand Mughal garden-tombs in India. Its elegant dome,
symmetrical layout, and beautifully landscaped Charbagh gardens make it one of Delhi’s most
remarkable historical attractions.
Later, visit the historic Qutub Minar complex at Mehrauli. The 72.5-meter-high Qutub Minar, the tallest stone tower in India, was begun in 1199 by Qutb-ud-din Aibak and stands as a magnificent symbol of early Islamic architecture in India. At its base lies the ancient Quwwat-ul-Islam Mosque, the first mosque built in India, along with the famous Iron Pillar of Delhi, which has remained rust-free for over 1,500 years.
Also enjoy a drive past the tree-lined avenues and impressive colonial-era bungalows of Lutyens’ New Delhi, showcasing the grandeur of British-era architecture, with time for shopping at local markets if schedule permits.
